Unfortunately, the hurdles at this juncture of the documentary are mainly financial- we cannot shoot without outside support.
Documentary filmmaking is one of the most expensive art forms to take on- the costs from start to finish are exorbitant. Financial support from organizations, as well as individual donations, are the lifeline to a successful, well-presented film. Unlike television and widely distributed Hollywood movies, very few Documentarians (less than 10%) actually profit from a finished project. For us, simply breaking even upon completion is considered a huge success. I hope it is apparent to you that this film is a labor of love, with the ultimate goal of making these rare performances accessible not just for the devoted fans of the genre, but also for newcomers and future generations. This particular realm of soul music is a part of our country's rich musical heritage- and it deserves far more attention.
The documentary recently received approval for nonprofit status via Fractured Atlas allowing us to receive tax deductible donations to continue.
Dig Deeper Documentary is a sponsored project of Fractured Atlas, a non-profit arts service organization. Fractured Atlas will receive grants in behalf of Dig Deeper Documentary.
